Welcome to “Healing Garden Adaptonics.” What you see here is Artemisia annua, annual mugwort, also known as Qinghao in traditional Chinese herbal medicine.
I personally have a very long—and wild—love story with this plant. Twelve years ago, I began growing Artemisia annua here in Tenerife’s healing climate and processing it into tincture.
This “plant spirit,” this “green fire,” remains at the heart of my business.
The story of Artemisia annua has often been told—and I have told it myself many times.
First, there is its long tradition in Chinese herbal medicine. Then, in the 20th century, came the discovery of artemisinin, and finally, in 2015, the Nobel Prize for Tu Youyou.
After that, an international discussion began about the role the whole plant can play alongside pharmaceutical substances developed from it. This debate between traditional herbal medicine, modern research, and regulation has accompanied me for many years.
But my connection to Artemisia is far from being purely scientific.
Twelve years ago, I began growing it here in Tenerife. I sowed, transplanted, harvested, processed, experimented, and learned an incredible amount along the way.
This “plant spirit,” this green fire, is still a part of Adaptonics today.
In the meantime, I have even realized part of the original dream of the Healing Garden: owning a plot of land where I can grow plants myself again.
And perhaps, in the end, that is the most beautiful part of this entire love story.
For me, it is not about making a grand promise about the plant, but about twelve years of curiosity, hands-on work, and an extraordinary story between traditional herbal medicine and modern research.
