The Highest
“Do you seek the highest, the greatest?
The plant can teach it to you:
What it is without will, be that willingly yourself – that is it!”
Friedrich Schiller
(1759–1805)
10 Years of Artemisia
Welcome to Adaptonics. Here we are at the Artemisia plantation. I just had a customer here.
And today I wanted to say something fundamental—not about Artemisia, but about health.
I’ve just realized that I’ve now been growing and selling this plant for ten years. And what it actually does to you to stick with something for ten years, what that feels like.
Even when it gets boring, when it’s not fun, or when you’re feeling down: That is somehow a strength in itself.
Be Like a Plant Yourself
I started growing Artemisia back then. For me, it was also a way out of a personal crisis. I had reached a dead end.
I didn’t want to inspire the people who saw it on television merely to become interested in a plant. I was at least as interested in the other side of it: Be like a plant yourself.
Friedrich Schiller once said:
“If you want the highest, be like the plant, but with a will.”
That’s it.
Be as steady as this plant yourself, which blossoms through its regular growth and its devotion to one thing.
That’s why I also wanted to inspire people with the message: You can shape your own life. You can take action yourself. And ultimately, that is also something your health depends on.
Of course, there are other factors too. But one major factor in life is the question: What am I actually doing here in this world?
Then there’s the whole area of human relationships, of course. But your profession is already a fairly large part of your life.
Sticking with a Crazy Idea for Ten Years
In that respect, I can only encourage anyone watching this to stick with a subject for ten years. It will probably pay off.
And also just to put a crazy idea into practice and simply go for it.
It was crazy how it all happened back then. I found the uprooted Artemisia on a compost heap and thought: You can’t just throw this away.
Then I took it to the farmers’ market. After half an hour, I had sold everything.
That’s when I thought: Okay, how much of this do I need to grow to make a living from it?
Then I appeared on television, and suddenly everything took off in a big way, and so on. And now I somehow have over 100,000 views on my Artemisia videos. Everyone talks about it, everyone has copied it—and I’m almost bored with it already.
Completely in Love with Artemisia
But on the other hand, it also sustains me because it’s simply such rewarding work. When you see people use it and appreciate it.
And I absolutely love drinking it myself.
I love this plant. I’m completely in love with Artemisia.
And yes: Taking your health into your own hands. That is my message, my mission.
I tell the story of how this love for the plant began in Artemisia annua – A Love Story. You can find out more about the plant itself in our Adaptopedia on Artemisia annua.
So, I wish you a good day, a great start to the summer—and plenty to keep you busy.
Bye!
